CDC Approved!! Now finalising our supplier selections

Having come back from the holiday break, our CDC has been approved. The selections process has taken longer than expected due to most suppliers being on holidays and some taking a while to get back to us. The selections via the Ichijo Colour consultant visits have were smooth and swift, and the requested quotes arrived within a week.

Trying to stick to our budget has been the challenge, as you constantly remember things you want added or think should be done before the house is handed over.

We have been given an estimated commencement date of the beginning of March 2015, so we are at the home stretch to finalising all selections and our plans going to drafting.

As a side note, we qualified for the New Home building grant of $5000 off the stamp duty when purchasing our land. the conditions of this grant were that the house foundations be commenced within 26 weeks of the land settlement date.

With a start date of beginning of march, this will put us 2 - 3 weeks past the 26 week period, so i have requested an extension to the Office of State revenue. As an FYI for any one wanting to extend the commencement period for the new home grant, the extension request process is as follows:

To request an extension to the 26 week time frame to commence building you need to send a written request addressing the following points;
1. A copy of the front page of your contract to purchase the vacant land.
2. Your postal address - part of the process involves a written letter being mailed to you.
3. The settlement date of your contract to purchase the vacant land.
4. The reasons for the delay in commencing to start construction.
5. The time frame needed to meet the requirement of construction commencing ie laying of foundations.

Once the above information is received you will receive an email confirming whether your request for extension has been approved and an official letter confirming the decision will be mailed to you.

  1. Hi, thanks for writing this blog, it'll will be very interesting to read about your building experiences.

    My wife and I are also interested in building with Ichijo and the Hebel wall/double glazed windows appealed to us too. Did you end up going with that upgrade package? My only concern was with the windows, after seeing them at the display homes, I didn't think you could put fly screens on them, as they open outwards. Did you find the same thing?

    Keep up the good work,

    Eric

    1. Hi Eric, Thanks for your coment! Yes we went with the energy upgrade which I believe included the hebel and double glazed windows - (I think they are having a promotion at the moment where these are included). Regarding the double glazed windows, they are made from PVC (yes the PVC plastic) and definitely feel plastic-like - however I believe this is to add to the energy saving qualities of the window. We enquired about fly-screens at our internal selections appointment and the only compatible system is the roller-blind style flyscreen which sit inside in front of the window at the top then like a roller blind, they come down using a chain.(you open the window then lower the fly screen). They actually look alright.
